Preprint from the ERA Chair and collaborators from The University of Queensland, Australia and LanzaTech posted on bioRxiv demonstrates the promise of gas fermentation also for direct valorisation of CO2, in addition to CO-containing gases. The authors used steady-state autotrophic chemostat cultures, metabolomics, and metabolic modelling to quantify conversion of CO2 into fuels and chemicals. The work also shows co-utilisation of CO2 and CO that enhanced fermentation performance significantly.
